Trip Description: This is a six day five night fishing trip to Ozello Florida and possibly the nearby Crystal River. Fishing in Ozello, Florida is a premier inshore and backcountry experience on Florida’s Nature Coast. Anglers target redfish, snook, speckled trout, and tarpon within a labyrinth of winding mangrove islands, oyster bars, and shallow rock beds.
The Environment
Mangrove Mazes & Creeks: Tidal creeks and dense mangrove tunnels require quiet navigation via kayak. Structure and Heavy Waters: The area features sharp oyster bars, rocky ledges, and shallow grass flats.
Top Target Species
Redfish: Found tailing on shallow flats or holding near oyster points and mangrove roots.
Snook: Ambush prey from under docks and dense mangrove roots, especially during incoming
high tides.
Speckled Trout: Common over the grassy shallow flats.
Seasonal/Nearshore: Moving closer to the Gulf or deep holes yields Spanish mackerel, cobia, snapper, and grouper.
Useful Tips
Fish the Tides: High incoming tides push predatory fish deep into the creeks and mangroves to feed. Watch the tides closely to avoid being stranded in shallow water on a dropping tide.
Weedless Lures: Bring weedless soft plastics, jerk baits, or topwater plugs to prevent snags in the heavy rock and vegetation.
Watch the Bottom: Keep speeds low if you are unfamiliar with
the shallow rocks and oyster bars
How to Sign Up: All signups must be done through the Trip Initiator in order to not over-book the number of beds. Additional VRBO rentals are available in the area if the two current VRBOs are full.
How to Get There: The trip is a 15 hour drive from Houston. The VRBO rentals are close to Ozello Keys Marina, 2355 S Ripple Path, Crystal River, FL 34429.
