Thanks for the compliment Ron and, again, thanks for your help during the Llano Trip. You are correct, as I recall, that the discussion on Saturday night started with the science of single malt scotch. I do, however, remember our discussion about beer making beginning at dinner on Friday night. That is when I first surmised you must have at least a Masters in BS.- when you explained, with a straight face, that beer should be drunk from a warm glass rather than in a chilled mug, as was offered by the wait staff. Because you offered your thesis on warm glass beer drinking with such authority and with the presence of a graduate who has been using his BS degree for many years, I suspect you may actually have a Phd in BS. I sometimes think Barry has a Phd in BS so maybe we should all get together and form a "think tank" for holders of BS degrees.
As for the trip report's reference to bourbon instead of scotch, I may have had a neurological synapse due to fellow member Mike, the brew master at St. Arnolds, telling me about the use of bourbon barrells to process some types of beer. However, it more likely could have occured beacuse of the tumble I took at "Double Dump Falls". Or, possibly it is the "parttimers disease" flaring up; although, I can tell you "parttimers disease actually makes the thought process much more clear as all thoughts except those involving fishing are cleared out of your mind.
When I first read your note about the subject matter being "beer making and single malt scotch" I thought back, as best I could, to us sitting around the table having the discussion. I asked my self-were we talking about bourbon or scotch? Then I remembered the joke you told us about a customer at a bar drinking urine from a glass he thought was filled with scotch and then being asked to age the urine. That's when I realized I had been mistaken in describing our discussion in the trip report having been about bourbon but, more importantly, that is when I recognized and appreciated the top notch training you received in obtaining your Phd in BS.
We had a great group on the Llano trip and it is always a pleasure to spend time with you and other members on the water.
