I never see much conversation about kayak fishing on Lake Conroe - are there any good places to put in and good places to fish?

 I've gone up there a few times, mostly paddled and swam but did fish a bit.  I go to the north end of the lake.  I put in at the Cagle Campground and at Lake Stubblefield.  I went there this last Saturday and the launch at Cagle was closed so I put in at Stubblefield.  First time there.  The water on the surface was hot.  Paddled to the main lake and swam a bit.  Didn't have much time so I only paddled about 3.5 miles round trip.  I will go back when I have more time and do some fishing and some more exploring.

This time of year the weekend PWC's and other recreational yahhoo's make for some rough transits so it is best to launch as close as possible to your honey hole.  Venturing out on the main lake where the tourists are jockeying for position will only get you buzzed by an uneducated boat operator.   Some may even enter your safe zone for a close-up of your Yak or small vessel; perhaps to count your rivets?!  Frequently some will <!--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 <!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:1; mso-generic-font-family:roman; mso-font-format:other; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:0 0 0 0 0 0;} @font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:swiss; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-1610611985 1073750139 0 0 159 0;} @font-face {font-family:"Comic Sans MS"; panose-1:3 15 7 2 3 3 2 2 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:script; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:647 0 0 0 159 0;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-unhide:no; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; margin-top:0in; margin-right:0in; margin-bottom:10.0pt; margin-left:0in; line-height:115%; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} .MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; mso-default-props:yes; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} .MsoPapDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; margin-bottom:10.0pt; line-height:115%;} @page WordSection1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.0in 1.0in 1.0in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;} --> <!--[if gte mso 10]> deliberately target your position just to test the seaworthiness of your Yak.  Beware and be safe.  That is all I can say about Conroe's weekend boaters.  I have a yellow yak which makes it a big boat target.  Going during the work week is your best bet not to be involuntarily turtled or stalked.

The bass and crappie fishing on the northern lake and tributaries are best for me with live bait.  I mostly use plastic bait...but being an older fisherman...I am partial to live minnows when crappies are on the menu.  I release all bass and other species.  Just take what I can eat or feel like cleaning (which isn't very often).  Over the years I have come to enjoy the sport more than the eaten part.  Next time I am on the lake I will get some gps coordinates for you to check out.  Just put a few back for me to photograph and/or release??
