SPEAKER
Scott Null (captscottnull.com website is coming soon). Scott is a writer, photographer and fishing guide and specializes in the Texas Gulf Coast.
Scott spoke to the group about marsh fishing for redfish in the Galveston Bay area. Some of the highlights from his talk were:
Coastal fishing for redfish is different for the upper and lower Texas coast. The lower section has more open flats, grass, clearer water and schooling fish whereas the upper coast has more marsh, the water is typically off color and the fish are shoreline oriented.
Redfish are very aware of noise, be quiet and patient.
Look for areas where wind, tidal flow and current move the water and push bait through areas for fish to ambush.
Windy shorelines can be hard to fish but can be very productive.
Be aware of deeper spots and channels in the marsh; redfish use these for travel.
Lures - good searching lures are topwaters (Wakers, Baby Minus-1) and spinner baits. Consider changing out the treble hooks with a single hook.
