Yes a big thanks to all the PACK Mules (Ken, Eli, Paula, Will, Michael, Jim, Barry, Ron, and the others that helped out when needed)

The room was awesome and the turnout was amazing. Good to see everybody out enjoying the company the pizza and the beer.

We should also offer our thanks to Austin Canoe and Kayak and Southwest Paddle Sports staff who came out to share in the festivities and even provided additional prizes for the attendees.

What a way to close out the 2011 PACK Events.

This years Christmas party was an enjoyable PACK event. This is one special event I look forward to attending all year because it brings friends and families together to share in fun, facts and even a little good humored scuttlebutt. Saint Arnold Brewing Co. always provides an enjoyable environment free from paddling against the current, windy conditions, slack/ebb tides, pouring rain, unwanted bow spray, choppy waters, mud flats, paddle slap, painful sunburns, barbed hooks, and hot or freezing temperatures. Occasionally other pack events do not include a good bite; whereas, we can always count on a good bite (pizza) at the annual Christmas Party. Thanks for the sharing part of your holiday fun and friendship with this old sailor.

Many of us have turtled or taken on water during the past year doing what we love most. A couple years ago I asked what to do in the unlikely event that I turtle; a very salty PACK member said, "just stand up?!" Since that time I have experienced shallow water and deep water reentry techniques involuntarily. Deep water reentry can be a challenge if unprepared with the proper safety equipment. It should be know that I probably hold the club record for turtling while sitting or standing in a kayak. Once I managed to fall (turtle) while sitting in 'Mesquito' Greg's wondrous unsinkable fold-able boat...it is true?! My point is that in every case I was properly wearing a life jacket and well versed in re-entry procedures. So my wish for the coming year 2012 is that all PACK members, friends and guests continue to take safety on and around all waters serious at all times regardless of experience or depth of knowledge. Merry Christmas and God Bless each of you and yours.

P.S. It should be known that the unsinkable fold-able boat is flexible enough to allow the gunwale to dip well below the waters surface - thus allowing any inexperienced "rubber-rafter" to go overboard, however it was an opportunity to practice bailing bilge water from a boat. Lesson learned: Use the 'two person rule' and when told not to rock the boat...don't rock the boat!
