It was back down to Cajun Country for seven of us PACK guys. A few got an early start and left Houston on Monday 4/22 for a stopover and dinner in Houma, LA. We drifted into the little coastal fishing village of Pointe aux Chenes (Oak Point in French). We hooked up with the local kayak marina owners Eddie and Lisa Mullins. The gnats, no-see-ums, or whatever you want to call them found us while we were standing around. Everybody down there and I mean everybody uses Amber Romance lotion by Victoria Secret. Just google: gnats amber romance You'll see. It works!!

Those that arrived early enough slipped our kayaks in the bayou from from P.A.C. Rentals. They have a full bait shop, live and artificial, kayak rentals and a diner.

Joel landed a nice 19" red on bait, Chris picked up a decent flounder, Marvin came in with a red and a trout. Eddie and the local kayak fishing guide Matt Carr [985-778-7372] tried to point us in the right direction. There was marsh and moving water everywhere. The tides were high and water levels went deep in the marsh.

Wednesday 4/24 we took advantage of the mother-ship Carolina Skiff that Eddie operates. He made two boat runs to drop off the seven of us in an area called the Pumpkin Patch about 9 miles from the marina. The incoming tides and southerly winds carried us up to the rendezvous spot on the main bayou after 5-6 hours on the water. Dolphin could be seen hunting the deepest sections of the Patch so we fished the edges and the back canals called trenasses. Early in the game, I tossed a pink soft plastic to what I thought was a monster bull red tailing in the shallows. It bit, but it was a big ugly black drum instead. Sorry no photos, you know what they look like!

Fishing was tough. A Louisiana legal trout took my bait as well as a 24" red. I heard some hardheads were boated using fresh bait. We needed radios to communicate, but cell phones worked in a pinch. It was pretty easy loading, unloading and getting in kayaks from the Carolina Skiff. A storm front was coming in Thursday 4/25 so we packed up and bugged out.

We ate well, we enjoyed the camaraderie, and drank in the remote location. What would I do different? I'd book the houseboat at PAC Rentals (sleeps 4) and contract Matt Carr as to not waste time casting where the fish aren't. Chris Arceneaux 2019 PACK Prez
