I put in at the "Condos" (which aren't there anymore) around 9:00 am. The bay looked like glass. Waders weren't needed since the air and water temperature were just right. The water was somewhat off color on the south shore with plenty of bait around. I paddled to the north shore and had it to myself, well there were not too many people on the bay at all. There was plenty of bait on this side as well and the water clarity was better. Fishing from the sand just the other side of grass line I caught three undersized reds and three trout. The reds hit a white buck tail jig, slammed it is more like it. One surprised me and nearly took off with my rod and reel. I thought I missed it, but when I recovered and reeled in the slack the pull of line provoked it make a run for it. The wind started as the day heated up so as everyone knows I had a steady headwind in place for my paddle back across the bay. I checked the surf on the way home and it was green to the beach with small waves. It was another great day on the water!
Nice Trip Report...who makes the buck tail jig you were throwing? Sound like it was ice cream delicious out there!!

I was throwing a white 1/4 ounce SPRO Prime Bucktail Jig that I purchased at Fishing Tackle Unlimited. I have not heard many people talk about fishing with bucktail jigs but I have used them in the past and have had good results with them. I fish them the same way I fish soft plastics. They are geat for casting into the wind since they don't have much resistance. I had to fish them faster than plastics to keep them out of the grass, but that was okay since the fish were agressive.
Thanks for taking the time to post the report. Sounds like you had a nice day. I have been thinking of making my way over to Christmas Bay and you report is just the incentive I needed. See you at the next meeting. Regards, Jim R
