Backlasher and I enjoyed the outing at Jones Lake on Saturday, January 12. We also enjoyed meetng and visiting with some new folks.

The weather couldn't have been better for being on the water. At times the water was crystal clear. We weren't able to stay long (we got off the water by 11 AM) because we wanted to get to our granddaughter's 3rd birthday party. We didn't catch any fish, but considered the day a great success just to be on the water. We made a discovery. I had neglected to hook up my anchor. So Backlasher was anchored up, and I drifted over beside him and he just hooked onto my kayak using his stringer, LOL!

Something interesting happened at the birthday party, too. Our daughter-in-law had baked up individual cupcakes for the kiddos, and she also baked a cake that looked like a large cupcake. As the birthday girl watched, her mama stuck 3 candles on top of the cake, then lit them. We all sang "Happy Birthday to You" then her mama said "Blow out the candles, baby." The 3-year old simply reached out, plucked out a burning candle, brought it closer to her and blew it out! WOW! Well, I guess at that age, she doesn't remember most of the parties she's been to or she didn't watch carefully when others blew out the candles, LOL! Her daddy (our son) was standing beside her, so he made sure she didn't grab any other candles. He coached her to lean forward and blow out the remaining 2 candles on the cake. That was a FEARFUL sight to some of us, to see fire in the hands of a little one.

Blessings to all, Betty

Likewise, enjoyed the trip.

Here is a brief trip report....Official trip report and pictures to follow.....

17 total in attendance which were made up of 4 guests and 12 members.  What a gorgeous day to be out on the water....ice cream conditions all day.  Most folks paddle out to mid bay reefs and far shoreline which was about a 4 mile paddle round trip...winds were so light, so it made it really easy.  As Mrs B. said water was crystal clear/trout green in a lot of areas...out going tide in mid bay had some mixed streaks of water where I located two nice Flounder (one was 21 inches and the other was 22 inches both were released) caught on a Corky paddle-tail.  In addition, I located 8 rat reds on far shoreline that hit Corky's and Norton Sand Eel Jrs.  I never found any trout which really surprised....off the water about 5:15pm.

Tight Lines,

This was a great trip for me.  Finally caught a big trout from my yak..24" and 4.8 # on Fat Boys scale. Looked like everyone had a good day fishing with perfect conditions.

JT, thanks for arranging the trip.

Jason,

I used a Catch 2000--the colors are in the "First Catch" photo.  I was in 3 ft. fishing the Catch 2000 about 2 ft deep.  I saw most of the group out by the reef and I was about 2/3 of the way between Fat Boys and the reef.
