Son-n-law and I fished Sabine for first time this past Sat. We launched on the North end due to the forecast of NE winds and had some information from Chester Moore that flounder had been caught in the channel earlier in the week.
The wind was light early and the paddle was nice. My son-n-law opted to go after trout, while I opted to fish shoreline for reds.
Later in the morning we met, where Charlie informed me that he had many blowups on his topwater, but no hook-ups. I had landed a nice 21" red on Baby Minus 1 (The color flatfish Charlie showed us at the last meeting).
After I left Charlie proceeded to fish the same shoreline and caught a 22" red on New Penny Gulp on a 1/4oz Rockport Rattler head. I headed down the shore a little more and a large red liked the offering that I had caught the 22" red on. It ran down the shore, however my luck didn't hold and it came off. I suspect it might have been oversize.
I wanted to keep fishing the shore, but the wind picked up, so we moved into the channel to see if we could find any of the flounder. I caught one 13" flounder, but Charlie found the school trout working in the channel along the shore and hugging the bottom.
It was a beautiful day even though the catching wasn't the greatest.
We launched off Hwy 87 south of Bridge City. There is a channel just north of Neches River which has some nice launching areas. We paddled down the channel to Old River Cove. From there are many options. I fished the SW shoreline and Charlie fished the NW shoreline. You can also paddle to Stewt Island if the wind is not too bad.
