Bob S and I took another, yes, another run to Salt Lake yesterday. Unbelievably the darn gate was closed after having zipped in there early the last three trips. Waited until the gate opened at about 645 and hit the water. Ran into some bird action on the north shoreline and Bob had a fish on right off the bat on a jig. I continued to chunk topwaters with many blow ups and not hook ups. After watching Bob catch a few more on the bottom, I finally wised up and put on a soft plastic and began to catch trout. We chased birds the rest of the morning. Its a hoot chasing birds in a kayak, but a great way to get some exercise while fishing. We would manage to pick up a fish or two with each flock and we'd paddle off to the next group of gulls. We kept that up until the birds broke up and we decided to paddle into Nick's lake and fished the scattered shell on the west shore. The water was nice, but no fish there. We then anchored up at the mouth of Salt Lake and Bob scored a flounder. We finally called it a day around 130. It was a gorgeous day to paddle, we managed a keeper red, flounder, and several trout. Took us both to get a slam, but we did it. I guess I've made enough runs to Salt Lake for a while. Anyone have any other places we can get to and catch some fish I'd love to get some reports. I'm so used to fishing around Bolivar this time of year, I don't know what to do without being able to launch at Stingaree. Any body fished Highland Bayou and willing to give me a few pointers on where to go and what to throw? Same for Bastrop Bayou. The boat ramp at Bastrop Marina is a great ramp and is open but I don't know anything about the paddling and fishing the area up or down the bayou...

I'm glad you were able to get on the water and have a good time paddling and catching!

Larry and I FINALLY got on the water yesterday. We went to Jones Lake, right at Tiki Island before you get to the Galveston Causeway. The water was down. The coastline had changed a bit, lots of exposed rock at the edge. So we used the boat launch.

As you mentioned, it was such a pleasant day to be on the water. We did more paddling than we usually do, it just felt so good to be out there. We didn't even get a nibble. The fish probably were biting in the early morning hours, but we didn't get there till about 10:30. But at least we got our salt water "fix."

Highland Bayou would have been a good place, too. Give us a call whenever you'd like to meet up there.
