Well after work on Sat, I found my way to the local angling shop.
Talked to the gentleman there, you do see the usual names as Shimano, Daiwa, Penn and Garcia, but also names like Grey, Leeda, Hardy, etc that maybe we all are not aware of. And a lot of the equipment is very different.
Also, due to satillite television, they think we all have high dollar bass boats and fish for black bass. I had a good laugh and said the majority of us can not afford those rigs. Over the weeks I'll be a regular visitor and hope to pick up some things I find interesting and can afford. I found a beautiful fly reel made in UK and was very interested until I looked at price, ouch way over $500, but it was nice.
Also, for sea fishing, the spinning reel is king rigged on long rods. They are very much accustomed to fishing with bait from shore.
Another interesting thing, if you fish in freshwater you have to have a license, but not if you fish the sea. This is causing a big riff between the 2 factions, as the freshwater anglers want the sea anglers to pay their fair share.
Thats it for now, if interested, I will keep sending over little tidbits.
Cheers,
What in the world are you doing in the UK? How long will you be there? And are you taking LOTS of photos to show us when you get back?
maybe you should ask to be paid in Euros! .....at the rate the dollar is falling, you're probably working for food by now....have lots a beers and come back to tell us how wonderful they were.
