The trip to Goose Island was a great trip, it seemed life got in the way for a lot of people, but by Friday evening 5 people had made it to Goose Island State Park and set up tents for the weekend.

A few got out and did some fishing Friday, the fishing seemed alittle slow, people worked the reef in front of Goose Island and then paddled over to Black Jack Peninsula, but the fishing action was non-existent.

Saturday, greeted the team with great weather and a general warm up, the group headed off to catch fish. New to kayak fishing, Lauren worked the reef with live shrimp, with no success, Buzz in his new peddle kayak and Joe and Karen B headed to Black Jack Peninsula and once again found little fish but lots of air boats!

I worked the shoreline of Black Jack Peninsula and the reef with nearly everything in my tackle box and never got a hit. The paddling was great, I was in my new (used) sit-in kayak and found it a delight to paddle.

Later in the afternoon Buzz prevailed and found the fish on a far shoreline of Black Jack Peninsula using a swimming shad. He landed both reds and trout! It pays to be persistent.

Saturday evening was great with a meal of fajitas, however the evening was cut short as everyone rand at dark to the tents as mosquitoes came out in force.

Sunday was another day of perfect weather but light fishing and even lighter catching. However, it was a great weekend to enjoy the fall weather, great camping, paddling and a good experience for two new PACKers. Lauren noted on Sunday, her fishing was interrupted by four dolphins circling her kayak, at times within a few feet of her boat!

Frank you are right when you said "Great Trip.... I say Excellent Trip...Perfect Weather, Light Winds, cool nights for camping and Fish

You could not have planned a better weekend for a PACK trip.  The weather was cool in the evening and warm in the day time.  The winds were light but enough to keep the kayak moving. The mosquitoes were out at night but that did not stop the guys....

I arrived at Goose Island on Thursday Night to meet up with Bill B and Bob R. They had been there since Wednesday.  I guess it was good to be on vacation or retirement.   Bill B had secured a nice site close to the pier on the water. We tried our luck at the pier around 11pm. There were loads of trout in the water but not too many bighting our baits. There were definitely keepers in the water but they knew the difference between plastic and real shrimp.   I ended up with one keeper trout… and lots of small ones. Bob had similar small luck.

Friday morning we headed to my spot in Nueces Bay.... Only 2 keepers in the AM session.  After lunch we traveled to Bill B's spots in the Brown and Root Flats... no luck there either.   We are attributing the lack of fish due to the Major High Tides. Bill B prepared  his food at the camp site, while Bob and I planned on having Mexican food at los Comales.  Then we hit the pier again with similar luck…. Lots of lookers only small takers.
Camping was great on Thursday and Friday nights. I was fortunate that my Tent did not break buckle or collapse.   I will be using the same tent next event. How about that.
Saturday started with finding our PACK members in the wooded camp spots.... we gathered a couple PACK paddlers (Brandon and Robert and headed to Bob R's favorite location, Palm Harbor.   Fish were found by everyone and for a while we had one every cast. Lots of small ones (reds and trout) and a keeper about every 8th fish.   As the sun set, I had a limit of trout, Bob R had 5 and a slot red. The others left early so I did not get a count from them. I know for sure Brandon had a red and a trout on the stringer.

Sunday AM we went back to the same spot. I did not find the loads of trout I did the day before but found lots of fighting 19” reds. One keeper out of about 15 small ones. I also found 3 nice trout to add to my collection. Bob R limited out on Reds and tried to find me and let me join in on the fun…. I was too far up wind…..we packed it in at 1pm.

Great PACK trip…… Reminded me of Panther 2008
