Meeting Overview:

Fishing Reports -

  • Neches River Mouth/Bessie Heights (Upcoming November PACK Trip) - Redfish are fairly abundant right in this marsh now and can be found along grassy shorelines adjacent to deeper channels. There was ample tidal movement and the lure of choice for that day was a popping cork with a gulp shrimp underneath (video).
  • Blake's Arkansas Trip - got into some Pickeral in Lake DeGray
  • Eckert Bayou - One small flounder was caught during the day and the redfish were very active at night under the light and some trout sparsely mixed in. Caught on a small down south lure and the reds pretty big and were between the low 20's to 26 inches. There was also no fish kill seen.
  • LSKS (Brad) - Went to Keith's lake and caught two keepers and a monster 31 incher and a big alligator gar. Some small reds, trout, flounder, and black drum mixed in.

Upcoming Trips

  • First Chain of Islands - everything looks good to head out at 7 am from Charlie's bait Camp.
  • Matagorda LCR - LCRA park car-camping and 3-mile cut are potential camping locations and you can put in across the highway at Rawlings cut and just a bit up the highway.
  • Goose Island - No changes - everything is still a go
  • Baffin Bay - (click link for info)
  • Matagorda Island - 10 people signed up thus far. There is also a camping permit for camping at this location (which was discussed in depth in the video)
  • Ride the Bull - If you are interested in going, let Blaine know so he can make a decision on renting a house/camp.

Insurance discussion - There are currently 2 different options for insurance that are being discussed, but board members will come up with a decision in the near future. As far as current payments, hold off on renewing ACA payments until a decision has been reached.

Speakers - Next week will be Bill Rodney who is with TPWD coastal ecology and our May speaker will be Dan Oko? who is a texas outdoor writer.
